| these tulips were photographed for a book that i produced with maggie perry. the working title was 'clay perry's 100 favourite flowers'. my publisher at the time , kyle cathie, asked me to choose 100 of my best loved flowers to photograph for the book, which was eventually published as 'clay perry's
fantastic flowers' the search for blooms to include in the book, took maggie and myself to many countries and
different climates from the american north to florida, for orchids, to greece for wildflowers, and out to
the australian rain forest where i photographed the tropical flora. however the tulips were found much
nearer home and were bought from my favourite florist in islington marco who owns "angel flowers"
i was not sure how i was going to photograph them, as tulips are very unpredictable, moving and changing
shape depending on the light that they are in. i opened the wrapping, that was a beautiful deep red colourmatching some of the colour of the tulips. i decided to photograph the blooms as they appeared when i first opened them with the wrapping, as i felt the tones matched perfectly.
